With summer in full effect, it was definitely time to get the family out for some fun!! Unfortunately, since summer IS in full effect, that means so is summer school, vacation bible school, and driver’s ed… not to mention other get-togethers and gatherings with family and friends after a long and cold winter. Add in the fact that I am due for baby #5 to arrive in just under 2 months and I am left wondering how I could squeeze in a vacation at all! Thankfully, we live in a really fun area, and I was able to plan an amazing Chicago staycation with my family and another family that we hold very dear to us! We decided to spend some time at KeyLime Cove in Gurnee, IL for a splashing good time and it was the most fun we’ve had in a long time!

KeyLime Cove is a resort, so the experience started at check in and we didn’t have to leave for a single thing because there was SO much to enjoy at the resort itself! Here are a few of our favorite things that we were able to enjoy without leaving the comfort of the resort:

Lost Paradise Waterpark

The Lost Paradise Waterpark inside of KeyLime Cove features 65,000 square feet of splish-splashing fun for the whole family! No matter what the weather is like outside, it’s always a balmy and beautiful 84 degrees inside of the waterpark, and the sun shines endlessly! There’s plenty of water thrills and fun for kids of all ages here. We’ve got Wild Rides which are guaranteed to get your pulse pounding, lazy floats down the river for those who are looking forward to Takin’ it easy, and a play pond kiddie pool for the Lil’ Limers who need some extra special attention in a fun, safe and secure environment.

Our group consisted of 4 adults, a teenager, and 6 children aged between 2 and 9, so it was a very diverse group! Thankfully, there truly was something for every one of us inside of the waterpark and we all wore ourselves out and slept like babies at the end of each day!

The Lost Paradise Waterpark is open Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to provide plenty of hours of fun-tastic thrills and wet and wild adventures.

RipTide Reef Arcade

At 8,000 square feet this has got to be one of the biggest arcades I have ever seen inside of a resort, and it is FILLED with fun! Not only do they have some pretty amazing video games, but you can also enjoy bowling, basketball, and even freshly made cotton candy!! I love that the arcade features games for kids (and adults) of all ages, including toddlers!!

Here at the RipTide Reef Arcade you can race head-to-head on a dirt track through the wilderness, test your skill shooting hoops, show off your dance steps, or try your luck with The Claw. And the better you play at our KeyLime Cove arcade, you’ll earn Toucan Tickets which can be redeemed for some pretty cool stuff including toys, t-shirts, stuffed animals, and even your very own iPod Nano!

Check out the schedule as soon as you check in and be sure to make time for at least a few of these activities with the kids!

Delicious Dining Options

There’s quite an assortment of dining options at KeyLime Cove, so no matter what your tastes are, you are sure to be satisfied! D.W. Anderson’s is an old-fashioned soda fountain with real-live soda jerks and a nostalgic menu straight from the 1950s. The Crazy Toucan specializes in refreshing tropical drinks — for all ages! Island Temptations is my personal favorite, packed with all kinds of amazingly sweet treats like candies, baked goods, and coffee! Ana Chovy’s Pizzeria is perfect for pizza lovers. Hot Diggity Dogs has all-beef hot dogs and brats, as well as fries, subs, and refreshing soft drinks. Of course, Sharky’s Big Bites features all-American classics from old-fashioned soft pretzels to burgers, fries, smoothies, and plenty of tasty snacks! All of these delicious options are available without even leaving the resort or calling for take-out!

Suites

Spacious Rooms perfect for any sized family

I was so impressed with the rooms at KeyLime Cove. Normally when we travel as a family, because we are so many, we have to either squeeze in to our room and be uncomfortable, or we have to opt in for 2 adjoining rooms. That can get so costly! We stayed in the Toucan Suite during our visit at KeyLime Cove and I loved that not only did we have 2 bedrooms for all of us to fit in, but there was also a “living room”, balcony, and a kitchen area so we could make ourselves really at home!
